The best movies of gambling!!

Post by MikeL »

Hi Everyone,

I know it is an off topic, but I was wondering about the movies which are based on gambling. I have seen a few and those are very exciting. I believe, there have many things to know from these movies. Right now some names are knocking at my mind. Some of those are 21, The Ocean series and especially The Bond series.

Do you have any name in your mind?

Thanks..

That movie was Rounders with Matt Damon and Ed Norton Jr. I thought that was a damn good movie. I also like the scene from The Hangover where the bearded guy Alan counts cards at blackjack makes 80 grand and splits when his buddy and newly wedded hooker wife distract the pit. Not at all realistic but pretty damn funny. Most gambling movies aren't too realistic, hell, movies in general aren't realistic, but nothing wrong with being entertained.

Right now in my mind, I have a few.

1. The Cincinnati Kid(1965).
2. The Casino(1998).
3. Croupier(1998).
4. Rounder(1998).

It seems the year of 1998 is having quite a few gambling movies. :D

I agree with Aramon. Movies are only for fun but I get those as very inspirational by watching. That's why whenever I got some free time, I like to utilize those by watching the movies. :)

I've got to say i consider 21 to be utterly aweful (though i still watch it from time to time as i love gambling lol). The story is terrible and cheesy, not to mention not making sense and despite having some good actors in it it screams b-movie. I can only assume the script writers were second or third tier.

And the Ocean's movies ain't that much better. I mean in the second one they have a major storyline that revolves around the fact that Julia Roberts' character looks like Julia Roberts?!

I really like The Croupier and Shade was pretty good, though very cheesy. I love Casino though in truth the movie's more about gangsters and Goodfellas is better

I tell you Pogg I really like Casino as well. It actually got better for me as I learned more about Lefty Rosenthal, the man Robert Deniro's character was based on. He was a pioneer in Las Vegas sports betting and a very interesting person. He was actually the first to bring sports betting into Vegas casinos. Now look what that has become, pretty amazing vision this man had. He was kind of crooked but ahead of his time.

I think Casino Royale (2006) was a pretty good gambling movie. The final hand brings all four players all in, with very impressive cards in succession.

I'm always disappointed with Bond movies - though that one less than most. I guess i just don't really like the character.

I find the whole mob era of Vegas absolutely facinating. In fact i find the mob in general facinating, but the Bugsy Siegel and the start of the Vegas resorts holds a special draw.
