Overview

Stravaganza is a card game that is only found at online casinos that use Playtech software.

When playing Stravaganza 5 decks of standard playing cards are used. The player places an Ante bet and the dealer gives them 2 cards. The player adds up the total of their two card hand – using standard Blackjack card values other than Aces always counting as 1. They then have 4 options;

Money Back – The player can retrieve their entire bet and end the round of play.

Rescue Bet – The player can retrieve half of their bet and end the round of play.

Sit – Continue to play, but not put any further wagers at risk.

Play On – Place a second bet equal to the Ante bet and continue to play.

It should be noted that not all of the above options will be available all of the time and their availability depends on your hand total. Money Back can only be selected if you have a hand total of 5 or less. The Rescue Bet option becomes available if you have a hand total of between 6 and 9 and the Sit option is available on hands that have a score of 10 or more.

Any option that will continue the round of play also deals the player a 3rd card.

Once the player has made their decision, the dealer deals 3 cards to themselves. The hands are then compared and the hand with the highest overall total is the winner. This exception to this rule is when the dealer receives a red Ace. When this happens as the dealer’s first card, the player loses their Ante bet and pushes the Play On bet and when the red Ace is the dealer’s second or third card the player loses both bets.

If the player wins the hand, Play On bets are paid at 1 to 1 while the Ante bet is paid according to the below table;

Player’s Hand Payout
3 of a Kind 5-Ks 3 to 1
3 face cards 1.5 to 1
All other winning hands 1 to 1

The optimum strategy when playing Stravaganza is as follows;

If you’ve got a total of 9 or less, take the Money Back or Rescue Bet option.

If you’ve got a total of take the Sit option unless you hold a pair of 5s, in which case you should take the Play On option.

If you have a total of 11 or more you should always choose the Play On option.

When playing optimally and based on the average bet rather than just the initial wager, the House Edge of Stravaganza is 2.54%.
