Aramon’s 2014/15 NFL Picks: Week 1 (Sunday)

Posted by THEPOGG in Blog.

NFL

Well the first week of the season saw us start off Thursday with a small profit based on the over in that gaming coming in for us. As great as Seattle looked in that game, I really think the Packers played a little under their potential and even though we did lose that pick with Green Bay, it may just open up value for us later on if the public temporarily jumps off a usually popular Packer team.

The first week of the season continues today for us with 3 more picks. We will stay conservative once again until we can truly start deciphering each teams true make up, but there is still value to be had here and now. So enjoy the first Sunday of the football season today, and I will look to make it a profitable beginning to what hopes to be a lucrative season.

New York Jets -5 over Oakland Raiders : Bet 3 units

Result: New York Jets 19 : 14 Oakland Raiders

The Jets look to be an actual threat this year to be a playoff team. After coming off an 8-8 season in which that seemed an over achievement, the Jets move forward this year with QB Geno Smith with a year under his belt and looking much more at ease at the position. The offense has improved and now has a legitimate receiving threat in the newly acquired Eric Decker from Denver, and they now possess an incredibly deep and potent ground game. The Jet defense is very good with a front seven that can match anybody’s in the league. They are a bit suspect at the cornerback position at the moment, but with the Raiders starting rookie QB Derek Carr I believe the Jets pass rush will be so disruptive that the rookie QB will not be able to even test the Jets secondary. The Raiders look like they aren’t bringing a lot to the table here, and its also notoriously a detriment for west coast teams to fly out to play games on the east coast at the early time slot. With all that being said if there was a must win game for a team in just this first week of the season, its a must win for the Jets. Their schedule gets brutal after today and this Oakland team is the weakest link in their early schedule. Expect big time plays from the Jets D line and wreak havoc on rookie QB Derek Carr. Jets should control this game fairly easy.

New Orleans Saints -3 over Atlanta Falcons : Bet 1 unit

Result: New Orleans Saints 34 : 37 Atlanta Falcons

The New Orleans Saints have done notoriously well against their division rival Falcons in past seasons. The Saints are 6-1 straight up with the Falcons while covering 5 of 7 in Atlanta’s home Georgia Dome. This season see’s the Saints return with their usual cast of characters on offense led by their elit QB Drew Brees. No doubt about it, this saints team is not only good, but a sexy pick for super bowl contender. I wouldn’t necessarily go that far, but with what seems to be an improved defense this year, and a Drew Brees led offense they will be formidable week in and week out. Atlanta on the other hand appears to have done nothing to improve on their 27th ranked defense of last year, and will have to depend on shootouts every week to compete. That will work against many teams, but it won’t work today against a Saints team with more bullets on offense and a better defense. I don’t expect an embarrassing route here, but Falcon QB Matt Ryan will not be able to match Drew Brees and his Saints offense score for score. Saints defense gets a test today, and I believe they will answer strongly.
