Aramon’s 2014/15 Wildcard Playoff Picks (Saturday)

Posted by THEPOGG in Blog.

NFL

Well we ended a poor regular season with a nice positive boost! We went 2-0 for week 17 and gained back 10 units to get us out of negative territory at least as far as total bankroll is concerned. The playoffs start today and in the past this is where we have shined. Today looks like an incredible chance at what I see as our start to an epic comeback towards respectability. The way I see it, if things go today the way I predict they will, we will not only have our best single day of the season, but we will never have to dip back beyond our season bankroll again. So sit back and enjoy the start of these NFL playoffs, as well as the monumental comeback for our season’s bankroll!

Pittsburgh Steelers -3 over Baltimore Ravens : Bet 8 units

What looks to many as an even match up between two division rivals that really know each other, is really not all that close of a contest. The Ravens have been inconsistent this season and really stumbled down the stretch. The Steelers on the other hand finished very strong with a 4 game winning streak and earned a home playoff game today where they are 6-0 against the spread in their last half dozen playoff appearances at home. I believe the line of -3 in favor of the Steelers has to due to the public’s perception of the impact of Pittsburgh’s star RB Le’Veon Bell’s knee injury thats keeping him out for this game. Otherwise Pittburgh would have been favored by even more. Well it won’t make a difference. The Steelers resurgence at the end of the season was due to their defense really playing much better and holding opponents to an average of 17.5 points a game over that 4 game winning streak. I also believe with Baltimore’s defensive line being so stout the Steelers were going to make this a pas heavy game against a very weak Raven secondary even if they had their star RB Bell in the game. Steeler QB Ben Roethlisberger has an unstoppable WR in Antonio Brown who I predict will have a huge day today. The Steelers pas game should prove to be way too potent for the Raven defensive back field, and the excellent offensive line of the Steelers should allow Big Ben ample time to operate an offense that will gash Baltimore with some big plays. I don’t see a very competitive game here as I see the Steelers going 7-0 ATS at home in the playoffs.

Carolina Panthers -6 over Arizona Cardinals : Bet 8 units

The Panthers come into this game as only the 2nd team ever to get into the playoffs with a losing record. Winning the weak NFC south division with a 7-8-1 record allowed them into the post season, much like the 7-9 Seahawks of a few years ago. I expect the same result for these Panthers as those Seahawks who embarrassed the heavily favored Saints that year. Only rightly so Carolina is favored in this game against the Cardinals. Even though the Cardinals come into this game with a far better 11-5 record, this is really more about who hit the playoffs in stride healthy and at the top of their game. While the Cardinals looked impressive for a good part of the season, the injuries to starting QB Carson Palmer, and then to second string QB Drew Stanton has all but crippled this Arizona offense. Since Palmer went down in week 10 the Cardinals have averaged just 12.4 points per game. But with them having such a great start to the season and building up a good record, they were able to limp into the playoffs. Even the Cardinal defense which has been terrific most of this season and has taken up much of the slack for the offensive woes has been slipping tremendously of late and has not been able to stop anyone on the ground. The Panthers on the other hand have gotten healthy and hot at the right time winning their last 4 games of the season. This winning d
streak has seen the Carolina defense come alive and look much like the ferocious squad of last year. As well as QB Cam Newton get healthy and account for 8 TD’s over this win streak against just 1 turnover. With the polar opposites in the direction these teams are going s far as momentum and health, and with this game being played in Carolina, I believe this will be an easy cover for a TD or more with the Panthers just beating down the Cardinals today.
