Sports Interaction have formed a very healthy relationship with software developer Playtech. Take a look through their non-European based casinos and you will see a casino lobby stacked with all of the latest Playtech releases, you might even find a few Playtech exclusives from time to time.
Playtech is a software provider with a long list of branded slots. Before Disney pulled the plug, they had the Marvel universe cornered, with a title for just about every one of the big superhero names from that universe.
Despite the evaporation of the Marvel titles and characters, DC is sticking to its more adult related content, giving Playtech a solid stream of superhero titles to keep ticking over.
A quick look through a SIA casino slot listing and you will see a number of the big names from the DC universe making an appearance.
Ever present are Superman and Batman. There are 2 Superman titles based on the original 70s/80s franchise that saw Christopher Reeve shoot to fame in 1978 thanks to his iconic depiction of the man of steel. There are also the Henry Cavill depictions, including “The Man of Steel”. Then you have the cross-overs with Batman, including the Justice League.
As for Batman, each of the Christopher Nolan directed movies has it’s own slot entry in SIA casinos and if that wasn’t enough, the much loved 60s TV show starring Adam West has no less than 6 different titles available to play in any SIA casino listing Playtech slots.
Finally you have your miscellaneous titles, like Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Green Lantern and Suicide Squad.
There are 17 titles in total for you to choose from but we want to narrow that number down to 5. The best 5 DC themed Playtech slots that you can play in a SIA Casino today. I’ll put you out of your misery now and confirm that none of the Batman slots based on the 60s TV show have made it onto our top 5 list but as this is a fairly niche market there is a good chance that at some point in the future we will talk you through the highs and lows of that particular series of slots.
In the world of the Avengers and Justice League there is a theory that more is better. Why just have Batman, or just have Superman? Why have Wonder Woman on her own or Aquaman kicking ass by himself? Instead, let’s put them all together and give the audience everything they want all in one go. For the Avengers this theory worked but for Justice League there was something not quite right about the ensemble. However, when it came to the Justice League slot more was definitely better. 6 different Free Spins modes, and you get to choose which one to play? Let’s have some of that please. Having said all of that, what I liked the most about this slot was the low house edge, not something you see very often in a Playtech release.
If there is one this the DC filmmakers have done better than Marvel it’s their depiction of a leading female superhero. Wonder Woman was released in 2017 with nowhere near enough fanfare. The film saw DC out-Marvel their rivals by opting to move away from the darkness occupied by many of their releases, bringing to cinemas a sense of humour and a surprisingly delicate handling of gender stereotypes at a time when it could not have been more relevant for them to do so. The film balanced humour, fantasy and social politics remarkably well and left us anticipating 2020’s sequel. As for the Wonder Woman slot , it comes with 2 different Wild symbols, 3 different Free Spins options, stacked symbols and a respin feature. In other words, there is a lot to keep you occupied here. Did I mention that it also looks amazing?
Here’s how Ryan Reynolds summed up “Green Lantern”: “With Green Lantern, I don't think anyone ever figured out exactly what it was. That isn't to say the hundreds of men and women didn't work their fingers to the bone to make it as good as possible. It also fell victim to the process in Hollywood which is like poster first, release date second, script last.” And who are we to disagree? However, this isn’t the case with the Green Lantern slot. It looks fantastic and is arguably the best designed slot on our list. Your features are 3 different bonus rounds, 2 of which are Free Spins rounds. You also get a collapse feature and 2 different Wilds.
Superman II is maybe not the best Superman movie but I put it close to the top just of the sheer camp lunacy of the whole thing. 3 baddies, all with the same powers as our man but lacking that all important ingredient: empathy. Our lycra clad sociopaths turn up and rip New York apart in a wave of 80s excess and abandon. Abandon plot. Abandon characterisation. But embrace the madness and you have a film that might not be the best but is pretty hard to forget. The Superman II slot is pretty darn impressive stuff. If you like a bonuses with variety then look no further: There are 5 different Bonus rounds that you can play: 2 pick and click round and 3 different Free Spins rounds. We liked it so much we gave it 9 out of 10.
If superheroes rely on a bad guy to bring out the best in them then surely the best superhero of all time is Christian Bale’s Batman in the Dark Knight? Why? Because there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the best bad guy in any superhero film ever is Heath Ledger’s Joker. Thanos might be capable of destroying the universe but he’s 95% CGI and 5% ridiculous. Ledger’s Joker was something much more real, much more relatable and as such is much more engaging and far scarier. The Dark Knight is easily the best Batman film ever made, meaning the slot developers were onto a winner before they even got started. The Dark Knight slot looks the part and secondly it has features that tie in brilliantly with the film’s central concerns. The duality of good versus evil, or order over anarchy can be seen through the two sets of respins and the 2 sets of Free Spins that you can trigger. Add to this a final flourish of a combined Free Spins game and you have a well thought out slot that has embraced the source material. Did I mention that we gave it the full 10 out of 10?
