BetBlocker Launch Calendaring Feature

Posted by THEPOGG on Nov 17, 2020

BetBlocker launch calendaring feature to coincide with
Safer Gambling Week

Any activity can become problematic in life if taken to excess. Whether it is eating, drinking, shopping or computer games. Even otherwise healthy activities, like exercise can become problematic if taken to extremes. Gambling is no exception to this rule and sadly it can be all too easy to indulge too much in this activity.

Safer Gambling Week is all about trying to encourage everyone to think about how they engage with gambling to ensure that they are doing so in a way that keeps them safe. For some people that’s as simple as keeping track of what they may have spent. For others gambling is something they should avoid completely. For everyone in between moderation is key and knowing about the tools and services that are available to help ensure you achieve moderation can be of significant benefit.

BetBlocker offers a free ‘blocking software’ that allows the user to restrict their device from accessing thousands of online gambling sites.

UK responsible gambling charity BetBlocker, which was founded by Alternative Dispute Resolution service ThePOGG, has just launched a new feature that should offer a new level of control to players looking to manage their gambling in an responsible manner.

Up until this point BetBlocker – like other widely available blocking softwares – has functioned on a fixed length blocking period, allowing users to select a pre-defined block that will run from the point of activation continuously until conclusion. This is great for people that want to stop gambling completely, but lacks flexibility for those looking to manage their gambling in a more responsible fashion.

To address this lack of flexibility the BetBlocker team have now added a calendaring function. This feature allows users to tailor their restriction to suit their needs. Do you find that you’re prone to gamble too much after a drink at the weekends? You can now set your block to come on at weekends. Want to avoid gambling just after payday? You can set the block to come on immediately after your paydayevery month. No matter what it is that potentially could lead to too much gambling, you can now plan out your restriction to best protect you.

Trustee of the BetBlocker project Duncan Garvie had the following to say about the calendaring feature:

“Responsible gambling is about more than the binary option of do or don’t. It’s about helping ensure that people who enjoy gambling can access this activity in a safe and controlled manner. BetBlocker’s new calendaring feature is a leap forward for blocking softwares, extending the service from a simple on/off to a point where users can now tailor restrictions that suit their specific needs. It’s a fantastic development that we’ve no doubt our users are going to really benefit from.

The BetBlocker calendaring tool has just been launched on the Android platform and will be available shortly on all platforms. BetBlocker is a free resource.
