White Lion - enforcing totally unfair terms and conditions

Ruling

Found for the Player - Our understanding is that imposing maximum bet terms on non-bonus play breaches EU consumer law, but having discussed this issue with this group previously they will not change their position.

Player's Complaint

On the 8th of March I deposited 500 euros into the casino and placed 4 bets on roulette. The first bet of 200 resulted in a 1000 win. The second bet was also 200 and resulted in a win of 5400. I then bet a further 100 and 200 with no more wins. I had not spotted something in their rules and only found out when they emailed me to say I was not allowed to place bets equal to or greater than 30% from the value of the deposit. So they removed my winnings.

Of course, there is no system to stop you betting over the amount and in my case I wasn’t hugely over - 33% by my calculations.. It seems if you bet over the amount and lose, then your money is gone without having ever been able to win. If you bet over and win, they take your winnings and you still lose.

There was another option available to them and that would have been to reduce my wins to the according max bet size and partially refund my losses using the same calculations. These extreme rules are unheard of when unattached to a bonus. Or at least, unheard of at a reasonable casino.

Hi joonasbn76,

Unfortunately there is nothing we can do to help you in this instance. This group of operators apply maximum bet limits to non-bonus play. Our understanding is that this practice would be non-compliant with EU consumer law, but having discussed this issue on several occasions with this group I can say with confidence that they will not change their position.

Sorry we cannot be of more help.
