The African Quest slot game can be found at Microgaming casinos. Microgaming as a standard now publish the house edge information of all their slots at any online casino that holds a UKGC license (this is a requirement for all UKGC licensed casinos). As such we can say that the House Edge of African Quest is 3.98%. When playing at any venue that does not hold a UKGC license and does not specifically publish the Return to Player information for their game, this information should be used as a guideline only as we cannot confirm whether or not this game is configurable.
The theme of African Quest is, as you might expect from the title, the African savannah and the animals that you would find there. The Lion takes centre stage, being the only symbol that comes fully stacked and the most valuable in this game. There are symbols to represent the continent of Africa too along with the iconic image of the sun setting on the Serengeti. Oranges and yellows dominate the colour scheme.
African Quest is a 5 reel game that is 4 symbols high. Instead of paylines, you form winning combinations of 3 or more matching symbols across identical reels.
Wild– The “Tree” is the Wild symbol, which will substitute for all symbols other than Scatters. Wild symbols only appear on reels 2, 3 and 4.
Scatter – The Scatter symbol is the “African Coin”. 3 or more of them anywhere on the reels will trigger the Free Spins feature.
Stacked Lions – Stacked “Lion” symbols can appear on reels 2 and 3.
Re-Spin – After every spin you have the chance to re-spin one of the reels. To do so will cost you and if the resulting spin is a win or if it adds to an existing win you will be awarded the payline win. If you fail to win on your re-spin you will lose the money spent triggering it. You can choose to pay to re-spin a reel as often as you like. Re-spins are not available during the Free Spins feature.
If you trigger the Free Spins, you will have 3 different versions of the feature to choose from. Each one is described below:
Option 1: If you land 3, 4 or 5 Scatters you will be given 5, 10 or 15 Free Spins respectively. Those Free Spins will come with a x3 or a x4 Multiplier on each spin. During the feature if you land 2, 3, 4 or 5 Scatters you will be given 3, 5, 10 or 15 additional Free Spins.
Option 2: If you land 3, 4 or 5 Scatters you will be given 8, 15 or 20 Free Spins respectively. Those Free Spins will come with a x2 or a x3 Multiplier on each spin. During the feature if you land 2, 3, 4 or 5 Scatters you will be given 5, 8, 15 or 20 additional Free Spins.
Option 3: If you land 3, 4 or 5 Scatters you will be given 12, 25 or 40 Free Spins respectively. Those Free Spins will come with a x1 or a x2 Multiplier on each spin. During the feature if you land 2, 3, 4 or 5 Scatters you will be given 6, 12, 25 or 40 additional Free Spins.
African Quest is not the best looking slot to take on an African wildlife theme. The symbols could be better designed and the colours could be that bit more vivid. You get some decent features though, from Free Spins that can be retriggered, to Wilds and individual reel respins. However, please note that those reel respins will come at a cost. The house edge is OK, sitting just above what we would consider to be an average level.
