The Spring Tails slot game is produced by BetSoft. BetSoft are one of the smaller slot development companies on the market at the moment and have recently started offering their own casino platform. The company was founded in 2006, entering the slots market 4 years later. Betsoft do publish the Return to Player (RTP)/House Edge information for their slots within the game help files. As such we know that the house edge for Spring Tails is 4.12%.
Spring Tails plays over 5 reels, each one 3 symbols high. The game uses traditional paylines with 5 in total, playing from left to right.
The theme for Spring Tails looks to be the Chinese New Year. Certainly the overall aesthetic is one that suggests China and the central character is also a rat and 2020 is the year of the rat.
Wild – The Wild symbol is the “Rat”, which will substitute for all symbols other than the “Golden Keys” scatter symbol. Wilds also come with a multiplier of either x3, x4 or x5 the bet. Wild only appear on reels 2, 3 and 4.
Scatter – The Scatter symbol is the “Golden Key”. 3 of them anywhere on the reels at once will trigger the Free Spins feature. Scatters only appear on reels 2, 3 and 4.
Free Spins – If you trigger the feature you will be given 12 Free Spins in total. Only high paying symbols are available during the Free Spins. The feature cannot be retriggered.
Buy Feature – At any point during your spins can choose to pay to play the Free Spins feature. This will cost you 60 times the bet and will operate in the same way as I have already described above.
Spring Tails is a decent slot, pretty much what you might have grown to expect from BetSoft. The slot looks great and it comes with 1 good feature. You get Free Spins, but hey cannot be retriggered and they don’t come with any addons. You can pay to play the feature but it doesn’t come cheap and you are relying on a lot of luck just to make that payment back, never mind make a profit. The house edge is a little higher than we would have liked, which detracts from any of the appeal that those Free Spins might have had.
