Canadian denied $10k win at OLG Slots over self-exclusion policy

An 82 year old Canadian man named John Marando had hit a $10,000 CAD jackpot at OLG Slots at Mohawk Racetrack but was denied his winnings over a self-exclusion policy the man doesn't remember signing. The real problems stems from the fact that the casino allowed this many to gamble and paid out smaller wins previously. The man is getting a lawyer to help recover his wins which he says were unfairly confiscated and if the casino knew about his problem, they shouldn't have let him get this far. One would think the casino knew this player was still playing at the casinos. The man said he was paid on smaller wins previously that day and has hired a lawyer to recover his confiscated winnings.

Should the player be paid his $10k winnings?

If the casino has a signed self-exclusion document I'd find the claim that the player 'forgot' that they'd signed this pretty thin overall. However if the casino has knowingly allowed the player to play then they've messed the bed on this one. The crux of the issue on this one will come down to whether or not the other wins that the operator's paid were large enough to require ID. If they didn't need to confirm the player's ID to cash out the smaller wins then they wouldn't necessarily know who the player or that they were self-excluded. The details of the situation and the license requirements for self-exclusions in the jurisdictions would be required to say more.
