Malaysian Authorities to Crack Down on Online Gambling

by Glenn Baird - October 1, 2017

Earlier this week Malaysian authorities claimed that they would be cracking down on online gambling. They went as far as to say that would do everything they could to end its presence within their country.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said that, “illegal gambling action committee to plan, analyze, synergize and execute the actions to be taken to completely wipe out illegal gambling once and for all.”

It is a message that we have heard before but one that many have assumed will be extremely difficult to execute.

The threat that Rashid levelled towards online gamblers in Malaysia, that this would be the most significant and sizeable operation to date is a message that has been repeated before, with many now doubting that the threat will become a reality.

Rashid has gone as far as to state that this time around things will be different because not only will the operators be arrested but so too will anyone found working in collusion with them.
