Boyle Sports Acquires 6 New Bookies in Northern Ireland
by Glenn Baird - September 8, 2020
BoyleSports continues their impressive march into the UK market with the acquisition of 6 HughesBet stores in the country.
BoyleSports is the biggest betting shop company in Ireland and over the last few years they have set their sites on expansion into the UK market.
Part of that strategy has involved buying up existing properties in Northern Ireland, along with affiliating themselves with a football team from the region.
The second and site of the BoyleSports’ advance is the Midlands in England. Deciding against trying to crack London, it was deemed more strategically viable for the Irish company to focus their efforts in Birmingham, something that has seen them sponsor Birmingham FC and Coventry City Football Club, two teams vying for promotion to the Premiership next season.
Conor Gray, chief executive of BoyleSports said: “Since BoyleSports founder and chairman John Boyle opened his first shop at Markethill, Armagh in 1982, it has been our ambition to develop a meaningful retail presence in Northern Ireland.
“The purchase of the HughesBet chain of shops demonstrates our long-term commitment to the Northern Ireland market.
“All of the stores being acquired will be rebranded as BoyleSports outlets. In line with the BoyleSports business model, all of the new shops will be upgraded to bring them up to the industry-leading standard which BoyleSports customers have come to expect and enjoy.”
