Criminal Gambling Enterprise Halted by Portuguese Authorities

Yesterday, 2nd of December saw the arrest of two middle-aged men in Portugal, under the suspicion of running an illegal gambling enterprise, as reported in the Portugal News Online.
The men, who operated in the regions of Felgueiras and Amarante were targeted as part of a 2-year investigation that has uncovered an online operation, the findings of which suggest that the unlicensed operators laundered through legitimate car dealerships and real-estate businesses.
A number of searches were carried out with the discovery and subsequent seizure of 58 illegal gambling devices and over 15,000 Euros in cash.
Whilst more people have been identified as having connections with the group only the two men previously mentioned faced arrest, with one of them already released at the time of writing.
Gambling online in Portugal was made legal in 2015, which means that the market is a relatively young one. Calls to reform levels of tax on gambling in Portugal to make the industry more desirable for legitimate operators.
