by Glenn Baird - December 3, 2018
With Sweden set to launch into online gambling next year, Lotteriinspektionen (One of Sweden’s regulators) have issued their first set of licences to allow operators to compete within the market.
Lotteriinspektionen, which will rename itself Spelinspektionen next year when online gambling goes live in Sweden have recently announced the names of 16 companies who will be granted a licence to operate in the country as of January the 1st 2019.
Since the 1st of August Lotteriinspektionen have received more than 90 applications for new licences, 70 of which are online operators.
Companies which have been granted a licence so far include Bet365, Bwin and Betsson, with a few lesser known names, including some Scandinavian operators.
Most of the operators have received 5 year licences, with a few only gaining a 2 year licence.
Those still waiting are likely to find out if their application was a success over the next few weeks.
