Profits Increase in Spain

by ThePOGG - May 14, 2017

Spanish gaming regulator Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego have published a profit figure of €122.7m in the first three months of the year. That is an increase of roughly 20% for the same period as last year.

The biggest increase came from sports betting, which, unlike other gambling sectors, saw an increase in revenue from the previous quarter at the end of 2016. 70% of the profits made from sports betting came from the in-play betting market.

Whilst these figures might suggest that the online market in Spain is in a healthy state, industry association Jdigital revealed that only 20% of operators in Spain managed to turn any kind of profit and have called for a reduction in the rate of tax that currently claims one quarter of generated revenue.
