Two established gambling firms in Sweden were fined yesterday for failing to comply with the country’s laws on bonuses.
Betway and Mandalorian were fined SEK5m (464,000 Euros) and SEK9m (835,000 Euros) respectively.
On Thursday, the Spelinspektionen (Sweden’s regulatory body) stated that the two firms had breached the laws on bonuses, which should only be available to customers who sign up for the first time.
Spelinspektionen released the following statement regarding bonuses:
“By bonus is meant a discount or similar financial incentive that is directly linked to the game. The main purpose of the new gambling regulation, which came into force on January 1, 2019, is to strengthen consumer protection and reduce the negative effects of gambling.
“The limitation on bonuses is contained in the law to reduce social and economic damages and problem gambling. The Spelinspektionen will therefore continue to focus on supervision of this area.”
