Overview

The United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC) entered the online gambling market as a significant regulator entity during 2014. Previous to this the UKGC were primarily responsible for the management and regulation of the offline gambling market within the UK. When the UK government decided to tax online operators for any activity generated by players located within the UK, the UKGC were given the remit of deciding which operators would be allowed to accept UK traffic and ensuring that those operators upheld the legal and professional standards required for a UKGC license.

The technical standards required by an online gambling operator or software developer to conduct business within the UK are amongst the most robust required by any licensing jurisdiction, making a UKGC license a strong indicator that the games being offered to players are fair.

The UKGC do not manage player complaints. Instead they outsource player complaint management to UKGC approved Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) services. As such the significance of a UKGC license to a player largely depends on which ADR service the operator uses. Our experience with the ADR services currently available has lead us to believe that some are more diligent than other when it comes to ensuring that players receive fair treatment and as such this creates variation in the value of a UKGC license to players. It should be noted that we have not had dealings with all of the UKGC accredited ADR services.

The ADR services currently available and relevant to the online sector are listed below, including contact information:
