Aurora Beast Hunter Slot Review

Released June 2020

The Aurora Beast Hunter slot can be found at casinos that stock Microgaming titles. Microgaming is a well-established provider of both slots and casino games, with an array of popular slots, including many big-name brands. As a standard Microgaming provides the Return to Player percentage in the help table of all their slots. As such we can say that the Aurora Beast Hunter is 3.73%.

Theme

Aurora Beast Hunter is a sort of science fiction/Mad Max/giant alien worm themed slot. Whilst the creatures are clearly out of this world, the symbols are made up of weapons that are very much a part of the 20th century. The central character/symbol is a good-looking fighter, who comes dressed for an 80s themed party, in hi-top trainers and lycra trousers.

Aurora Beast Hunter is a 5 reel game with 3, 4, 3, 4, 3 symbols available in each reel respectively. There are 40 paylines in this slot, playing from left to right.

Special Symbols

Wild – There are 4 different Wild symbols in this slot and other than the standard Wild they all appear as “Giant Killer Worms.” All Wilds substitute for all symbols other than Scatters and each type of Wild is described below:

Expanding Wilds – When an Expanding Wild symbol lands on reels 1, 3 or 5, it will expand to fill all the symbol spaces on that reel.

Stacked Wilds – When a stack of 3 identical symbols lands on reels 2 or 4, al the symbols will become a Stacked Wild.

Sticky Wild Stacked symbols are only available in the Sub Free Spins and when they land they will stick in place, whilst all the other reels spin again to potentially award additional wins. They will remain in place of the rest of the spins.

Scatter – The Scatter symbol is the “Monster Truck”. These only appear on reels 1, 3 and 5 and if you can land 3 of them you will trigger the Free Spins feature. If you only land 2 of them on a single spin then the reels without a Scatter will spin again, giving you another chance to trigger it.

Bonus Features

Free Spins – There are 3 different Free Spins games available for you to choose from: The Sub, Danger Zone and Sandstorm. Each one is described below:

The Sub – You get 5 Free Spins and after each spin one reel is randomly marked. If either an Expanding Wild or a Stacked Wild land on the marked reel then they will be replaced with a Sticky Wild Stacked symbol. That Sticky Wild Stack will remain in place for the rest of the feature and it will reward an additional Free Spin (a respin) when it lands.

Danger Zone – You get 8 Free Spins and on every spin you will have between 1 and 5 Wild symbols added to reels in random symbol spaces.

Sandstorm – You get 12 Free Spins and wins involving Expanding Wilds will award x1.5 the bet and wins involving Stacked Wilds will award x2 the bet.

Random Features – There are 3 random features in this slot: Cash Prize, Random Wild and Sticky Wild Stack. The fact that they are random simply means that they can trigger at any time without any required symbol combinations. Each on is described below:

Cash Prize – if this happens then Expanding Wilds will award x1.5 the bet and wins involving Stacked Wilds will award x2 the bet.

Random Wild – If this happens then between 1 and 5 standard Wild symbols are added to the reels, but they can only land on reels 1, 3 and 5.

Sticky Wild Stack – If this happens then an Expanding Wild or Wild Stack will turn into a Sticky Wild Stack and remain in place for a respins, following any payout.

Conclusion

Aurora Beast Hunter sees Microgaming team up with Just for the Win Productions in an 80s inspired sci fi slot. You need think Mad Max when you play this slot, although it is more accurate to think of Mad Mary in this case. The looks a little better than previous Just for the Win collaborations and it comes with a fair amount of features, including multiple Wild symbols, random features that involves those Wilds and Free Spins that also involve them. The house edge is offering decent value for money and for me this is a good effort, one that I think is worth a look.
