Aztec Wilds Slot Review

Released January 2020

The Aztec Wilds slot game can be found at casinos offering Iron Dog software. Iron Dog are one of the smaller software providers currently on the market, but the appear to be a subsidiary of the far larger and better established 1x2Gaming. They do not offer a full casino platform, but primarily seem to be used as a bolt on package for extra slots games. Iron Dog do publish the Return to Player (RTP)/House Edge information for their slots games within the game paytable. As such we know that the house edge for Aztec Wilds is 4%.

The Aztec Wilds consists of 5 reels, 4 symbols high. The game does not use traditional paylines, instead it uses winways, of which there are a minimum of 1024.

Special Symbols:

Standard Wilds – The “Gold Mask” are the game’s standard wild and will substitute for all symbols. They are only available on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5. “Gold Masks” are more likely to appear during tumbles.

Sticky Wilds – The “Colourful Masks” are the game’s sticky wilds, which will substitute for all symbols. “Colourful Masks” are only available on reel 3. Sticky Wilds will not disappear when they are part of a winning combination. Instead, they will tumble down if the symbols beneath it are destroyed and disappear.

Expanding Wilds – The Expanding Wilds will substitute for all symbols. It has a random chance to land on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Bonus Features:

Tumbles – Every time you land a successful winway the symbols that trigger it will explode and disappear, before existing symbols tumble down into those spaces and new symbols are added to the reels, giving you another chance to try and form a winway. The process will continue until no wins are formed.

Free Spins – The Free Spins will trigger after you have landed 4 successive tumbles in a row. The tumbles above 4 and up to a maximum of 8, the more you get during your free spins.

4 tumbles will get you 14 Free Spins.

5 tumbles will get you 16 Free Spins.

6 tumbles will get you 16 Free Spins with a multiplier that begins at x3 the bet. Each tumble will increase it by 1.

7 tumbles will get you 20 Free Spins with a multiplier that begins at x3 the bet. Each tumble will increase it by 1.

8 tumbles will get you 20 Free Spins with a multiplier that begins at x6 the bet. Each tumble will increase it by 1.

Conclusion

Iron Dog slots appear to be improving with each release. This one is very similar to Viking Wilds, but there are enough differences that you couldn’t claim it as a templated slot. It looks OK, but you will find far better designed Aztec themed slots out there. You get your tumbles, you get 3 different Wilds and you Free Spins that trigger is a slightly more imaginative way than you might have experienced before. The house edge is decent but nothing to get overly excited about and as such I say that there’s not a huge amount to single this one out from the crowd.
