Boom Pirates Slot Review

Released October 2019

The Boom Pirates slot game can be found at Microgaming casinos. Microgaming as a standard now publish the slots house edge information of all their games at any online casino that holds a UKGC license (this is a requirement for all UKGC licensed casinos). As such we can say that the House Edge of Boom Pirates is 3.81%. When playing at any venue that does not hold a UKGC license and does not specifically publish the Return to Player information for their game, this information should be used as a guideline only as we cannot confirm whether or not this game is configurable.

Boom Pirates is a 5 reel game that is 4 symbols high. The slot does not use traditional payline and instead you form what Microgaming have called wonderways. You need to land combinations of 3 or more identical symbols across adjacent reels. The number of reels can increase at random, which means that the number of wonderways will also increase. The number of wonderways available ranges from 1024 to 10,077,696.

Special Symbols

Free Spins – The Free Spins symbols are the “Yo”, “Ho”, “Ho” symbols. You need to land one of each of them on reels 1, 3 and 5 to trigger the feature.

Bonus Features

Boom Pirates Feature – This feature triggers at random. When it does, a giant cannon ball will hit the reels and increase the number of reels and with it the number of wonderways that are available. This feature is only available during the base game.

Mary’s Swashbuckling Attack – On any non winning spin there is a random chance that Mary might appear on the reels and swap symbols around to give you a 5-of-a-kind win.

Free Spins – If you trigger the Free Spins feature then you will be awarded 10 Free Spins. 3 Scatters during the feature will award you with an additional 3 Free Spins. Any additional cells that are activated during the feature will remain in place for the remainder of the Free Spins.

Buy Now Feature – At any point during your spins you can pay 100 times the bet to play the Free Spins feature.

Foxify – If you click on the Foxify button then you will increase the size of your bet by 50% but will also have more chance to land 3 of the Free Spins symbols. The feature is only available during the base game.

Conclusion

Boom Pirates is a Microgaming slot that has been made in conjunction with Foxium, which is clearly why one of the key features is called Foxify. I like the potential for lots and lots of winways, I also like the fact that the Free Spins come with a Buy Now feature. I do think that the Buy Now is a little overpriced at 100 times the bet but it is still a welcome addition. The Foxify feature again comes at an additional cost, something that means you have to careful to make sure you can afford that increase. You will know the feature is in play because the background of the game will fall into darkness. You also get Free Spins, a decent looking slot and a reasonably competitive house edge.
