Divine Showdown Slot Review

Released: December 2019

The Divine Showdown slot game can be found at casinos offering Play ‘n Go software. Play ‘n Go are a growing providers in the industry and have a rapidly expanding portfolio of both slots games and clients. They do offer a full casino platform, but primarily seem to be used as a bolt on package for extra slots games. Play ‘n Go do publish the Return to Player (RTP)/House Edge information for their slots games within the game help files. As such we know that the house edge for Divine Showdown is 3.8%.

The Divine Showdown slot is a 5 reel game that is 3 symbols in height. It uses traditional paylines, with 20 in total, playing from left to right.

Theme

Play ‘n’ Go are no strangers to a God themed slot, with this one hedging its bets and including 4 of the big names from ancient mythology. You have Athena and Thor from Greek mythology, Anubis makes up the Egyptian corner and you have Wukong, the Money King from Chinese mythology. In a rare twist of fate, these 4 Gods come together to fight each other in the ethereal plains.

Special Symbols

Wild – The Wild symbol is the “Sword” and will substitute for all symbols other than Scatters. Wilds can also come fully stacked.

Scatter – The “Multi God Symbol” is the Scatter. They can appear on all reels and you need 3 or more the trigger the Free Spins feature.

Features

Multiplier – On an spin there is a chance that a multiplier can be applied to your spin. The multiplier can be anything from x2 to x10 the bet.

Power Spins – The Power Spins feature is a random one that can trigger at any point during your spins. There are four different Power Spins, one for each of the Gods:

Wukong – The Wukong Power Spins will add between 1-2 fully stacked Wild symbols to the reels.

Anubis – The Anubis Power Spins will turn all of 1 or 2 randomly chosen symbols Wild.

Athena – The Athena Power Spins will synchronise 3 randomly chosen reels, so that they all contain the same symbol.

Thor – The Thor Power Spins will turn all other God symbols that land on the reels into Thor symbols.

Free Spins – If you trigger the Free Spins you will not be given a set number of spins, but rather a set number of lives. You are given 3 lives, with the feature ending once you have lost all 3. Before the feature begins you need to choose a God to take into battle. If you win your battles then only the Power Spin of your chosen God will be active. If you lose a battle then the Power Spin of the other God will be active.

Before each spin in the Free Spins 4 symbols will rotate and 1 of them will be chosen at random. Either the spin button will trigger, at which point you are given a spin with your chosen God’s Power Spin active, or one of the remaining Gods that you have not chosen will trigger, at which point your God will have to battle them.

The winner of the battle is determined by the number of battle symbols that land for each. More for your God and you win the battle, take your God’s Power Spin into the Free Spins and retain your lives; more for your opponent and you take the other God’s Power Spin into the Free Spin and lose a life (if you lose all your lives you won’t get another Free Spin and the feature will end).

Conclusion

There is an awful lot to love about this slot. First of all, it looks great. But the aesthetic is much less important than the features on offer. You get random multipliers and random features that can have a big impact on your wins. You do battle with other gods in the Free Spins and all the good stuff that is available in the base game is waiting for you there too. You can’t retrigger the spins and there is no set amount, adding yet another random element to this slot. The bad news is that the house edge is far too high. I mean, far too height, which is gutting because if that was to come down this might have been my favourite slot of the year.
