Fortress Charge Slot Review

Released June 2020

The Fortress Charge slot can be found at casinos that stock Microgaming titles. Microgaming is a well-established provider of both slots and casino games, with an array of popular slots, including many big-name brands. As a standard Microgaming provides the Return to Player percentage in the help table of all their slots. As such we can say that the House Edge of Fortress Charge is 3.55%.

Fortress Charge has a fantasy theme. You get knights, dragons, ogres etc and the whole thing is set inside a castle. The slot is designed in such a way that it makes the most of its theme. You take heroes and fight villains on your way to winning huge cash prizes. This is a slot/video game and is one of the most interactive slots I have played in years.

Fortress Charge is a 6 reel game that is 3 symbols high. There are 3 paylines in this slot, playing from left to right.

Special Symbols

This slot is very different to most out there. As such there are no traditional special symbols, which as Wilds or Scatters. This means there are no traditional features such as Free Spins or Bonus games either.

Bonus Features

Reel Quest – If you land a Hero symbol on the left side of the reels you will trigger the Reel Quest feature. At this point your hero will battle with symbols that appear in on the same symbol position on the reel to the right. If you defeat the symbol your hero will move one space to the right and reels will spin again with him/her in place before you battle with the next symbol. This process continues as long as you keep winning. As you so you will keep winning cash amounts with the jackpot waiting for you at the right side of the reels.

There is a full list of all the heroes and who they can defeat in the paytable, along with a full list of villains and who they defeat. However, as your hero advances it is not guaranteed that they will encounter a villain. There are also accessories, chests, multipliers, fortresses and empty platforms.

An empty platform will allow you to advance to the next reel, without any corresponding win.

If you find a chest you will be given an instant win and then progress to the next reel.

A fortress will award an instant prize but will halt your progress, hence the guarantee of a fortress on the final reel.

A multiplier will ensure that any future instant wins for that hero will be multiplied by the mount awarded. You can accumulate multipliers, meaning you can a much larger instant win if one occurs for that hero.

Accessories can be collected and will aid you when fighting certain villains. Again, there are too many to go through them all but essentially the best accessory is the wand as it defeats all villains.

Fireballs are random features that can trigger at any point and will automatically defeat any villain for you.

Fortress Charge is unlike any slot you will have played before. This is more computer game than it is a slot, despite the fact that you can win and lose money whilst playing it. A lot of criticism will be levelled at this one for the lack of paylines, which means wins don’t come as often as you would like. The game could also look much better. If this was a computer game then you would need to head back to the 90s to find designs that would make it look contemporary but put those criticisms aside and you have something that is quite special. There are no Wilds and no Free Spins but that is OK because the Reel Quest feature is big enough and interactive enough to make up for those perceived failings. This slot won’t be for everyone, but for those after something a little different Fortress Charge is very much something that you will find a little different. I’m not convinced this will be played in years to come as better, shiner versions of it will be on their way but as a glimpse into what the future of slots might hold you can’t go far wrong with this one.
