Gem Miner Slot Review

Released February 2020

The Gem Miner slot game can be found at casinos offering Reel NRG. Reel NRG is a relatively new software developer in the online gaming market, having only been in operation in some form or another since 2013. Reel NRG, appear to focus exclusively on slots games, with any of their table games now in retirement. In compliance with UK gaming legislation, Reel NRG publish the RTP/House Edge information for their slots games within their pay tables. As such, we can say that the House Edge for the Gem Miner slot game is 4.9%.

The Gem Miner slot game has 5 reels in total and each one is 3 symbols high. The slot uses traditional paylines, with 20 in total, playing from left to right.

Theme

This is a mining themed slot, so you can expect the usual assortment of gems, miners and mining equipment.

Special Symbols

Wild – The Wild symbol will substitute for all symbols other than Scatters.

Scatter – The Scatter symbol is the “Miner”, which will trigger the Free Spins feature if you can land 3 or more of them on a single spin. Scatters only appear on reels 2, 3 and 4.

Features

Cascades – Every time you land a winning combination the symbols involved will disappear off the reels to be replaced by new symbols and another chance to win. This will continue as long as you keep landing wins. With each cascade a multiplier will be applied. The mutlipler will increase with each cascade by up to 5 each time.

Symbol Stack Feature – On any random spin there is a chance that up to 5 identical symbols will be added onto the three rows.

Free Spins – If you land 3 Scatter symbols you will trigger 12 Free Spins. During the feature all high paying symbols will land as colossal symbols on the reels. Colossal symbols will be either 2×2 or 3×3 in size and they will not always be fully displayed. Even if only a small part of the colossal symbol triggers a win, the whole thing will disappear on the cascade, during which colossal symbols can be added again.

Conclusion

Gem Miner is a decent slot offering a few good features. You get Wilds, cascades and Free Spins that come with colossal symbols. Add to this a random stacked feature and you have a few elements to get excited about. The slot looks OK, but is always going to struggle with the big providers in terms of aesthetic. The house edge is much higher than we like to see, which is enough of a reason for us not to recommend this slot.
