Great Book of Magic is a 5 reel game that is 3 symbols high. The game uses standard paylines, with 20 in total playing from left to right.
Scatter – The “Book” is the game’s most important symbol. Not only is it a Scatter but it also functions as a Wild symbol, substituting for all symbols except the Bonus symbols that becomes available during the Free Spins feature. The “Book” symbol is also needed to trigger the game’s Free Spins feature, with 3 or more of them anywhere on the reels awarding you with 10 Free Spins.
Free Spins – You trigger the game’s Free Spins by landing 3 or more of the “Book” symbols anywhere on the reels. You will be awarded 10 Free Spins and will not gain more for having more than 3 “Book” symbols. Before the Free Spins begin a Bonus symbol will be chosen at random. This symbol may expand to fill the entire reel. Free Spins can be re-triggered.
Great Book of Magic is a much simpler game than I was hoping for. The game’s thumbnail suggested magic, wizards and castles, which in turn suggests bonus features and a cracking looking game. Ultimately, neither of those unspoken promises were fulfilled and instead what we are left with is a game that looks OK and has 1 feature. The Free Spins that are on offer do have some variety through the use of the additional bonus symbol and the fact that they can be re-triggered is excellent. The symbol that triggers the Free Spins also acts as a wild so at least we have that. The house edge is good, sitting at the sweet spot of what we would consider to be good value for money. To summarise, this is game that doesn’t quite live up to the promise, but still offers some fun and a decent house edge.
