The Hanzo’s Dojo slots game is produced by Yggdrasil Gaming. Yggdrasil Gaming take their name from Norse mythology where Yggdrasil is a magical tree where dragons lived and Odin sacrificed himself. Yggdrasil Gaming are one of the smaller slot development companies on the market at the moment – primarily focusing on lottery and scratch card game – and do not offer a full casino platform. They lease their games out to casinos using other platforms as a bolt on package. Yggdrasil Gaming publish the Return to Player/House Edge of their slots games within the game help file. The House Edge of Hanzo’s Dojo is 3.90%.
Hanzo’s Dojo is a 5 reel game that is 3 symbols high. The game uses 20 standard paylines, playing from left to right.
Wild – The Wild symbol is the “Samurai Mask”, which substitutes for all regular symbols.
Hanzo Symbol – The “Hanzo” symbol, which has a picture of an older, grey-bearded man on it is only available in the “Roof Reel” and 3 will trigger 3 free Hanzo Spins.
Free Spins – Land 3 or more “Free Spin” symbols and you will be granted a number of free spins. All “Free Spin” symbols in the main reels are worth 3 Free Spins, so landing 3 of them will gain you 8 free spins. “Roof Reel” “Free Spin” symbols are worth 4 free spins and they add a “Booster”.
Roof Reel – Above the main reel there is a 3 space “Roof Reel”. 4 symbols are available on the “Roof Reel”. There is a “Wooden Box” symbol, which wins you nothing. There are the “Hanzo” symbols, which get you 3 “Hanzo Spins” when you land 3 of them. “Samurai Mask” Wild symbols can appear and when they do then will expand down and fill an entire reel on the main reels. “Free Spin” symbols are also available and will contribute with combinations from the main reel, whilst adding additional spins and “Boosters”.
Hanzo Spins – Revealing 3 “Hanzo” symbols from the roof reel will award you with 3 “Hanzo Spins”. When this happens a 3x3 grid will be created in the middle of the reels containing only 1 symbol, chosen at random. This will stay in place for the duration of the “Hanzo Spins”.
Free Spins – Once you have triggered the Free Spins a 3x3 grid will form on the centre of the reels, containing only 1 symbol, chosen at random and will remain there for the duration of the Free Spins.
Boosters – If you trigger the Free Spins Feature using a Roof Top symbol you will be given a “Booster” to take into the Free Spins that is chosen for you at random. There are 5 in total:
You can gain an additional 2 Spins with the “2+” Booster.
You can gain paylines moving both left to right and right to left with the “Each Way” Booster.
You can gain a “3x3 Symbol Nudge” Booster.
You can gain a “x2” Multiplier Booster.
You can gain a “Wild” Booster, where the 5th reel fills with Wild symbols.
Other than the “3x3 Symbol Nudge” Booster, all the Boosters are available in the “Hanzo Spins” too.
Honzo’s Dojo appears to have just about everything you could every ask for in a slots game. It looks incredible, not just in the detailed, intricate symbols and the lush Japanese background, but also the brilliant animated opening sequence. The game has its own simple narrative, which allows the player to become more immersed than most other games allow for. There are lots of features, with a particular favourite being the “Roof Reel” at the top of the grid, that allows for additional Free Spins, Expanding Wilds and Boosters. The House Edge is about average, making the game reasonable value for money, coupled with excellent playability and aesthetics.
