Icy Gems is a 5 reel game that is 3 symbols high. There are 20 paylines in total, paying from left to right.
Special Symbols
Wild – The wild symbol is easy to spot as it has “Wild” written across it in bold lettering. Wild Symbols replace all other symbols but cannot be collected as part of the Symbols Storage.
Bonus Features
Symbol Storage – When a win is awarded on one or more lines, the winning symbol will be added to the Symbol Storage. When 3 symbols have been added you will trigger the Super Spin feature.
Re-Spins – If there are empty spaces left in the Symbol Storage after a win then you will be awarded a re-spin. The re-spins will end if you fail to win or when you fill the Symbol Storage, at which point you will trigger the Super Spin feature. As soon as you fail to win on a re-spin the Symbol Storage will re-set to zero and the base game will continue.
Super Spin – You trigger the Super Spin feature by filling the Symbol Storage. During this feature only the symbols collected in the Symbol Storage are available on the reels. There are three different stages available during the Super Spin which are determined by the number of similar or different symbols that you needed to trigger the feature. You trigger Stage 1 when you store 3 different symbols in the Symbol Storage and all 3 symbols will be available on your spin. You trigger Stage 2 when you store 2 different symbols in the Symbol Storage and both of those 2 symbols will be available on your Spin. If you manage to trigger the feature and have filled the Symbol Storage with all of the same symbol you will enter at stage 3, where there is only 1 symbol and you are guaranteed a win.
Conclusion
Icy Gems is a chilly version of another relatively recent Microgaming venture called Reel Talent. In fact, this game is exactly the same in pretty much every way, except how it looks. Unfortunately, Reel Talent was a much better-looking game, with a much more interesting theme to play around with. In Icy Gems you have a game that has some very simple looking symbols, set against an equally simple looking background. The features, like the same ones in Reel Talent, are a little limited, offering no more than wilds and a bonus round with nothing much left to hold your attention. Again, I like the symbol storage feature but feel that it takes too long to trigger and is disappointing when it does. The house edge is a little higher than we would like to see, meaning there are better value for money offerings out there.
