The Luxor slots game can be found at online casinos offering Pariplay. Pariplay now publish the slots house edge information of all their games as a standard. You can find this by clicking the ‘+’ symbol at the bottom left hand corner of the game window then clicking ‘?’. Within this help file you’ll find the RTP information. As such we can say that the House Edge of Luxor is 4.05%. As the help file does not list a range of possible figures we assume that this game is not configurable and should be the same at every casino you find it at.
Luxor is a 5 reel game that is 3 symbols high. The game does not use standard paylines and does instead use winways, of which there are 243, that can increase up to 1944 thanks to the inclusion of expanding reels.
Wilds – The “Scarab Beetle” is the game’s Wild symbol. Wild symbols on reels 2, 3 or 4 trigger a reel expansion. Any time you land a Wild symbol on those reels, the reel will expand, increasing by one square and you will be awarded a re-spin. Each reel can expand up to double the size but you can only ever be awarded 1 re-spin, no matter how many Wilds you land.
Bonus – The “Tutankhamun” symbol is the game’s bonus symbol and will trigger the bonus feature if you can reveal three of them on a single spin.
Bonus Feature – During the game’s Bonus you enter the Tomb of Tutankhamun and are presented with 19 Urns, each one containing a special symbol. You must choose urns one-by-one until 3 symbols match. As soon as 3 symbols match, the Pharaoh’s Tomb bonus game ends and the player collects their reward. This is how you win the game’s jackpot and how you trigger the game’s Free Spins.
Major Jackpot - The Major Jackpot is triggered during the game’s bonus round if you reveal 3 of the “Major Jackpot” symbols. If this happened you will be awarded x100 your original bet.
Grand Jackpot -The Grand Jackpot is triggered during the game’s bonus round if you reveal 3 of the “Grand Jackpot” symbols. If this happened you will be awarded x2000 your original bet.
Free Spins – To trigger the Free Spins feature you need to reveal 3 “Free Spins” symbols during the game’s Bonus round. You will normally be granted 10 free spins, but the size of the reels will change depending on what Free Spin symbols you reveal. You can reveal a grid that contains up to 1944 potential winways when you do this. If you reveal 2 matching symbols and then a “Plus 5” symbol then you will be awarded what the matching symbols are offering, plus 5 free spins. If you have two sets of doublers before a “Plus 5” symbol is revealed then you will be granted the highest of the 2 pairs when a “Plus 5” symbol is revealed.
During Free Spins, if 3 or more “Tutankhamun Mask” symbols appear anywhere on the reels the same initial amount of Free Spins is awarded to the player. Free Spins can be retriggered up to 9 times.
Free Spins Wilds – Stacks of up to 4 Wilds can appear on the reels during the Free Spins Feature. However, the expanding reels feature that is present in the main game does not carry over to the Free Spins. A random reel tilt may occur on reels 2,3 or 4 to reward an extra Wild symbol.
Luxor is a slots game that is doing its level best to pull out all the stops in order to make this an Egyptian themed game with a difference. Sure, the symbols are all what you would expect to see, but the expanding reels are something you really don’t see every day. The Bonus round is a little disappointing as it is little more than a gateway to the Free Spins feature. However, this is where the jackpots lie and if you can win the grand one you will walk away with a huge 2000x multiplier. The Free Spins are also a little bit different to what you might have seen before, with options for larger grids, creating more winways and the possibility of additional spins. The only downside I can see with this game is the house edge. It is far from a complete disaster, but at just over 4%, the value for money on offer here is a little weaker than we would have wanted it to be.
