The Magic of Sahara slots game can be found at Microgaming casinos. Microgaming as a standard now publish the slots house edge information of all their games at any online casino that holds a UKGC license (this is a requirement for all UKGC licensed casinos). As such we can say that the House Edge of Magic of Sahara is 4.71%. When playing at any venue that does not hold a UKGC license and does not specifically publish the Return to Player information for their game, this information should be used as a guideline only as we cannot confirm whether or not this game is configurable.
Magic of Sahara is a 5 reel game that is 3 symbols high. The game uses traditional paylines, with 9 in total playing from left to right.
Wild – The “Magic of Sahara” symbol is the slot’s Wild symbol. It will substitute for all symbols other than Scatters and it will appear stacked on reels 3 and 4 in the base game and on all reels during the Free Spins feature. The Wild symbol is also the slot’s most valuable and can pay out individual combinations if you can form paylines with 3 or more of them.
Free Spins/Scatter – The “Treasure Bowl” is the Free Spins symbol. You need three or more of them anywhere on the reels in order to trigger the Free Spins feature. The “Treasure Bowl” also happens to be a Scatter, meaning it will pay out regardless of paylines and is, after the Wild symbol the most valuable in the game. Scatter symbols are the only symbols in the game to pay out in combinations of 2 or more. These symbols will only appear in the base game, meaning they cannot be used to re-trigger the Free Spins feature.
Tokens – The “Man in Blue” symbol is the slot’s tokens. You collect these, and once you have collected 25 in total, you will have a alternative from the previously mentioned “Treasure Bowl” to trigger the Free Spins feature. Additionally your collected Tokens also represent the number of Free Spins that you will earn when you trigger the feature. You can only bank 1 token per reel spin, even if two appear on the reels in a single spin. Also the “Man in Blue” symbol attaches itself to low-paying symbols. You cannot collect tokens during the Free Spins feature.
Free Spins – During the Free Spins feature all wins are multiplied by 2. Scatters and Tokens are not in play during the Free Spins feature. This means there is no way to re-trigger the feature. You will always begin the feature with 5 Free Spins, plus the number of tokens that you have collected.
It is always interesting to see a theme that you don’t come across very often. In this instance the desert theme is one that you will see from time to time but if I am honest I am yet to see it executed particularly well. Unfortunately, the Magic of Sahara slot does not buck that trend. It has a few decent features. I particularly like the tokens that can be collected but am equally disappointed that you cannot re-trigger the Free Spins feature. The game looks OK but is far from the quality of some of Microgaming’s best slots. The biggest let down here is the house edge. At nearly 5% this slot is offering poor value for money and as such we couldn’t possibly recommend it. This means that the wait for a really good desert themed slot must go on.
