Mystic Hive Slot Review

Released July 2020

Mystic Hive slot is produced by BetSoft. BetSoft are one of the smaller slot development companies on the market at the moment and have recently started offering their own casino platform. The company was founded in 2006, entering the slots market 4 years later. Betsoft do publish the Return to Player (RTP)/House Edge information for their slots games within the game help files. As such we know that the house edge for Mystic Hive is 3.87%.

The Hive has an unusual symbol formation that has been designed to look like a bee hive. The symbol height is arranged in the following way, from top to bottom: 3, 4, 5, 4, 3. The slot uses paylines, with 30 in total playing from any point horizontally or diagonally.

Theme

This slot has a bee theme, which is why it is called “The Hive”, why it is shaped like a hive and why the features all involve bees and honey. However, there is a twist in play because this it is also set at night when fireflies fill the reels, along with their magic potions.

Special Symbols

Wild – The “Honey Pot” symbol is the Wild, which will substitute for all symbols.

Bonus Features

All the Bonus features are triggered through the introduction of Fireflies hovering around the hive. Fireflies appear at random and the disappear at random too. Below you will see what each Firefly brings to the game:

The Green Firefly – The Green Firefly increases the number of other fireflies that hover around the hive. Whilst it doesn’t contribute anything directly, the presence of the Green Firefly should increase the chances of you triggering the other features.

Yellow Firefly – The Yellow Fireflies awards a stacked multiplier that also increases the number of Yellow Fireflies that hover around the hive. Each firefly increases the multiplier by 1.

Red Fireflies – The Red Fireflies are the ones carrying the pots of Nectar. When they appear they pour the contents of their pots into the Nectar Meter. You need to fill the Nectar Meter to trigger the Free Spins feature.

Free Spins – If you fill the Nectar Meter you will trigger the Free Spins feature. You will be given 5 Free Spins in total. During the Free Spins 1, 2 or 3 Honey Burst Spreading Wilds will appear on the grid. Wilds will spread from their starting position to adjacent symbol spaces on the grid following each spin. This will happen on each of the 5 Free Spins.

Conclusion

I wasn’t a huge fan of the Hive and given that Mystic Hive is the same slot with a redesign it’s very unlikely that I will like this one much either. You get Wilds and you get Free Spins and your Free Spins come with a modifier. There are also multipliers, but essentially the key features are triggered at random, involving an aspect of the game that is not contained within those reels. None of that is any different to The Hive but there is one big difference: the house edge. In Mystic Hive the house edge is much higher and as such there is absolutely no reason to play this slot.
