The Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness game can be found at casinos offering Play ‘n Go software. Play ‘n Go are a growing provider in the industry and have a rapidly expanding portfolio of both slots games and clients. They do offer a full casino platform, but primarily seem to be used as a bolt on package for extra slots games. Play ‘n Go do publish the Return to Player (RTP)/House Edge information for their slots games within the game help files. As such we know that the house edge for Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness is 3.41%.
Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness game is made up of 5 reels, each one 5 symbols high. Instead of using paylines, you win by when you form winning combinations of 4 or more symbols, touching vertically and horizontally. Winning symbols will be removed and new symbols will drop down, giving you multiple chance to win with each spin.
Wilds – There are 3 Wild symbols in this slot, with each one offering something different. However, the one thing that they all have in common is that they will substitute for all other symbols.
Special Wild – The Special Wild is the “Tome” mentioned in the slot’s title. You will see Rich Wilde holding a copy of it to the side of the reels. These are essentially standard Wilds but they do have the random potential to trigger Portal Effects.
Multiplier Wild – The Multiplier Wild is “Rich Wilde”. The symbol acts as a standard Wild but will also double any wins it contributes to.
Mega Wild – This symbol is only available in the “Other World” round and takes the form of a “Mega Wild Cthulhu”, which is a hideous creature with one large eye and tentacles. If all the Open Eyes (I’ll explain this a bit further down) are triggered then you will release the “Mega Wild Cthulhu” which will be added to the grid and will move down with each cascade before disappearing.
Eye Markers – At the bottom, left-hand-side of the grid you will see a smaller grid that mirrors the reels and all the spaces on it. On certain spins a purple eye will appear in one of those spaces. If you land a winning combination on the highlighted space you will add to Special Wild symbols to the grid.
Portal – Above the Eye Marker grid sits the Portal that charges with each combination that you form during a single spin. The Portal has 4 markers, each one making up a quarter of the Portal. If you can reach the first quarter then you will have two Special Wilds added to the grid. If you can make it to the halfway point then you will have two Special Wilds added again with a slight upgrade. If you go on to form a winning combination with one of the Special Wilds that have been added then you will trigger the “Abyss” feature, which will remove and then replace an entire row or column. Make it 3 quarters of the way round and you will again receive 2 Special Wilds, and this time if you form a win with at least one of them you will trigger the Void feature. This feature removes all of one randomly selected symbol and replaces it.
Other World – If you can fill the entire Portal the you will trigger the Other World feature. You are awarded 1 free round with 3 random Portal Effects. The Portal takes 42 symbols to fill and for every 3 additional symbols that are added beyond those 42 you gain an additional Portal Effect, up to a maximum of 7.
Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness sees Play ‘N Go’s most famous slot character hit the reels again, this time entering the terrifying world of H.P. Lovecraft. The slot opens with a suitably spine-chilling quote from the master of grim and gruesome horror fiction. This is not a game for the faint of heart, and I am not just referring to the terrifying Cthulhu when I write that. This game is big, it is complicated and is utterly engaging and addictive. Play ‘N Go have released some stunning looking games this year, but I would say that this game sets itself apart from the rest because of the central feature. Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness is for my mind Play ‘N Go’s best slot of the year and is a genuine contender for game of the year. There is so much going on all the time that it can be hard to keep up but once you get your head round it, I suspect that fans of Rich Wilde might find themselves with a new favourite slot game.
