The Secret of the Stones Max slot game can be found at Net Entertainment casinos. Net Entertainment are one of the most established software providers on the market, being founded in 1996. Net Entertainment are a Swedish company but gained enough success to have offices all over the world. Net Entertainment do make the house edge information of their slots games available and this can be found in the help files of the game (usually accessed by pressing the ‘?’ button at the bottom left of the game window). As such, we can state that the House Edge for Secret of the Stones Max is 3.28%.
Secret of the Stones Max is a 5-reel slot, with each reel sitting at 3 symbols high. There are 25 paylines in total, playing from left to right.
The theme for Secret of the Stones Max is a Pagan one, the icon of the Druid as our central character and the stones looking like something you might associate with Stonehenge or similar Pagan/Celtic ruins.
Wild – The “Druid” is the Wild symbol and will substitute for all symbols other than Scatters.
Scatter – The Scatter symbol is the “Tree”, which will trigger the Free Spins if you can land 3 or more of them anywhere on the reels at once.
Max vs Classic Mode – There are two ways to play this slot, either in Max Mode, or in Classic Mode. If you play in Max Mode you don’t pay any more per spin but you do have to accept that your hit rate will drop and your RTP will fall with it. However, in Max mode the amount you earn per win is higher and the addons in the Free Spins are more impressive. We’ll provide a breakdown for both versions below:
Free Spins – If you trigger the Free Spins you will have to play a click and pick Bonus game which will determine what extras you take into the Free Spins with you. During the Free Spins there is the chance that “Druid” Wilds can come fully stacked.
Free Spins Features – Before you begin your Free Spins you must choose from 20 Standing Stones to determine which features you take into the Free Spins with you. The number of picks that you get will be equal to the number of symbols that triggered the feature in the first place. There are:
Extra Free Spins – Some of the Stones will contain a number of Free Spins for you. The maximum number available is 10.
Multipliers – Some of the Stones will contain Multipliers that will be added together and applied to any wins that you get. There are x1, x2 and x3 multipliers available.
Wild Reels – Reels 2, 3 and/or 4 will become Wild for the duration of your spins.
Extra Wild Symbols – The Deer, the Bull or/and the Owl become Wilds for the duration of the feature.
There are x1 and x2 multipliers available.
Wild Reels – Reels 2 and/or 4 will become Wild for the duration of your spins.
Extra Wild Symbols – The Deer and/or the Owl become Wilds for the duration of the feature.
Max is a more volatile version, where you should win less often but should win more when you do win. You can get better multipliers in the Free Spins in the Max version, as there are no x3 multipliers in the classic version. You also get 1 more Wild symbol in the Max version’s Free Spins and you have the potential for 1 more reel to turn fully wild in Max than in Classic.
Secret of the Stones Max is an updated version of an old Net Entertainment classic. This isn’t the first time the software giants have done this, with a similar makeover given to the Roman slot, Victorious, towards the end of 2019. For fans of the original this means that the game will be finding its way back into casinos after years out in the wilderness and with option of playing a Max version. I’ll keep things simple: the Max version is for fans of high risk, high reward slots and to be honest unless you are after a bit of nostalgia I don’t know how much point there is playing any other version as the original doesn’t really stand up to the quality of slots being released today. I like the fact that you don’t have to pay more for the Max Version but, of course you will have to be prepared to win less often if you do play it. Honestly, the whole thing is pretty underwhelming and not one I can see much merit in recommending.
