Spinal Tap Slot Review

The Spinal Tap slot is produced by Blueprint Gaming. Blueprint Gaming are one of the smaller slot development companies on the market at the moment and do not offer their own casino platform. Instead they lease their games out to casinos using other platforms. Blueprint Gaming do not always publish the RTP information for their slots in the paytable. However, in this instance they have done, which means we know that the house edge for Spinal Tap is 3.08%.

The Spinal Tap slot uses 5 reels that are 3 symbols high. Instead of paylines you form wins when you land matching combinations of 3 or more symbols across adjacent reels.

Special Symbols

Wild – The Wild symbol is the “Plectrum”, which will substitute for all symbols other than the Bonus symbol.

Bonus – The Bonus symbol is the “Devil Horns”. 3 or more of them anywhere on the reels in a single spin will trigger the Bonus feature.

Spinal Tap – The “Spinal” symbol can come fully stacked, if the most valuable symbol in the game and pays out in combinations of 2 or more.

Bonus Features

Rock Mode – This feature is triggered at random, or you can pay to gain a VIP Pass and trigger it automatically. When this happens the dial on the right of the screen will hit 11 and you will be taken to a new screen where a record spins on a turntable. The record will stop spinning and reveal a bonus that you can either take or you can reject to spin again. You must then accept whatever bonus you are given on the 2nd the spin of the record. There are 4 features available on Rock Mode and each one will take place on an expanded set of reels that increases the winways from 243 to 2187:

Bonus Odyssey – The reels will spin once with an additional number of Bonus symbols added to each reel, giving you more chance to trigger the different Bonus features.

Heavy Duty Wilds – An unspecified number of reels will turn fully Wild for a single spin.

Wild Sparks – A number of Wild symbols will be added to the reels.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Spins – You will be given a number of spins and when you land a winning combination those symbols will stick in place, with new combinations doing the same.

Bonus – If you trigger the Bonus feature there are 7 different Bonuses that you could land. You will be given a number of records to flip and the first matching pair that you land will be the bonus that you play. The more Bonus symbols that trigger the feature, the few possibilities there are for you to land, with some of the poorer bonus features removed.

Bonus Gamble – Before you accept a Bonus you can choose to gamble it. There are 3 possible outcomes: You can drop down to less desirable feature, you can win an instant cash prize or you can improve your bonus up to the next best feature.

Double Platinum Bonus – If you trigger this you will open a new screen with a Fortune Wheel and 3 Band Member images. The Fortune Wheel is composed of 3 Rings each divided into segments. Each segment contains a multiplier value. Selecting a Band Member will reveal one of the following outcomes:

Arrow: Adds an Arrow to the Fortune Wheel which can progress you to the next Ring.

Multiplier Boost: Increases random multipliers on the Fortune Wheel.

Spin: Spins the Fortune Wheel.

The first outcome received will be collected. If the Fortune Wheel lands on an Arrow 3 times in a row then you trigger The World Tour Bonus.

Don’t Fret It Bonus – You will open a new screen with a guitar on either side and 3 Boxes in the middle. You need to pick a Box , which will reveal one of the following outcomes:

Blue Arrow: Increase up the blue values.

Red Arrow: Increase up the red values.

Blue and Gold Arrow: Advance to the maximum blue value.

Red and Gold Arrow: Advance to the maximum red value.

Take a Prize: Once revealed no more advances can be made, the Boxes will highlight and reveal one of the following:

Win Red: Collect the red value.

Win Blue: Collect the blue value.

Rock Them Both: Collect the red and the blue value.

Record Deal Bonus – You have 16 vinyl records that you need choose from. Select 1 and it will be held until the end of the bonus. As you select certain records, others will be eliminated. By the end you will be offered a cash prize. At the very end you either choose to keep the amount or gamble to try and trigger one of the 4 Free Spins features.

Stairway to Hell Free Spins – If you trigger this feature you will be given 11 Free Spins. If you land Speaker Stack symbol you will trigger more Free Spins during the feature. A Bone Wild can appear fully stacked on the reels and you can see the reels expand from 5 to 7 at any random moment.

Encore Spins – You get 11 spins with these and any Wilds that you land are collected for the final spin when they are all placed on the reels at once. There is a random chance that you will end up playing across 7 reels instead of 5.

Stonehenge Spins – You get 11 spins and they all come with a special Stonehenge section on the reels. Any Wilds that fall into the section will lock in place for the remainder of the spins. If you lock one in each of the Stonehenge positions then you will trigger an additional 11 spins.

World Tour Spins – When this feature triggers you will be taken to a Bonus Trail screen which is split into 3 stages, Europe, USA and Japan. You will always begin in Europe with the aim to advance through all the stages accumulating prizes and reaching the Big Money end game. You will spin a wheel that will either take you along the bonus trail or it will end the feature. If you can make to the end of the Bonus Trail you will have a chance to win the Jackpot.

Conclusion

The Spinal Tap is as big and outrageous as anything the writers of that film could have came up with. This slot may well have more features in it than any other I have played before, ensuring that your entertainment value is turned all the way up to 11. I have a couple of criticism; the first one being that I do believe that the VIP pass is worth the charge. Essentially, you need to land the bonus when you spin the record, otherwise you are unlikely to make your money back. Then you need to land Free Spins out of the 7 available bonuses. Sure, you can win something, but it is unlikely to be the money that you spent to trigger it. I also feel that there is a distinct lack of any Spinal Tap music in the slot. You have riffs and bass lines, even some streaking guitars but none of the songs from the film. However, the house edge is excellent and despite those 2 failings this is a slot we would thoroughly recommend.
