Sweet Alchemy Slot Review

The Sweet Alchemy game can be found at casinos offering Play ‘n Go software. Play ‘n Go are a growing providers in the industry and have a rapidly expanding portfolio of both slots games and clients. They do offer a full casino platform, but primarily seem to be used as a bolt on package for extra slots games. Play ‘n Go do publish the Return to Player (RTP)/House Edge information for their slots games within the game help files. As such we know that the house edge for Sweet Alchemy is 4.00%.

The Sweet Alchemy does not use a standard slots game format. Instead you are presented with a 5×5 grid of symbols. Rather than paylines, wins are generated when you receive clusters of four or more matching symbols at are horizontally or vertically adjacent. When you receive a winning combination, after you have been paid the symbols that contributed to the win will explode allowing the symbols above to drop down and new symbols to fall in to the top of the game area to fill the gaps. This process is repeated until no new wins are created.

Each winning combination the total of the symbols that contributed to the win will be added to the ‘Sugar Rush Meter’ at the bottom right of the reels. When you have collected a total of 6 symbols in the Sugar Rush Meter two Wild symbols will be added to random positions on the reels. When you have collected 13 symbols two Stripped Wild symbols will be added to random positions on the reels. These symbols remove an entire row or column of symbols, depending on whether the stripes are vertical or horizontal, when they contribute to a win. When you have collected 25 symbols two Dotted Wild symbols will added to random positions on the reels. Dotted Wild symbols remove random symbols from the reels when they contribute to a winning combination. If you collect 38 symbols you trigger the Mix the Elixir bonus feature.

The Mix the Elixir bonus feature starts with 3 spells as standard, but can have up to 7 depending on the number of symbols you collected when it was triggered. Every 3 symbols collected about 38 will award and additional spell. The Mix the Elixir bonus round is played on a 9×9 game grid. You receive a single spin of this game grid however as soon as you stop creating new winning combinations the Witch at the right of the reels will cast a spell to create new wins. There are three different spells as detailed below:

– Mixed Candy – all the symbols on the game grid will be mixed around to create new wins.

– Sugar Bomb – Red cherry bombs will drop onto the reels blowing up random symbols.

– Sweet Surprise – random symbols on the reels will be replaced with one of the three Wild symbols.

During the Mix the Elixir round there will be two symbols selected at random at the bottom right of the reels. Each symbol will have a total beside it. When winning combinations of those symbols are received on the reels they symbols are added to the bank at the bottom of the reels. If you collect the total for both symbols you receive a star and a new total is set. You can collect up to three stars. If you manage to collect any stars during the Mix the Elixir bonus you will go on to the Elixir of Power bonus after the Mix the Elixir bonus is concluded. The more stars you have the better the prizes in the Elixir of Power bonus.

When you trigger the Elixir of Power bonus round you will be shown a 5×5 grid of chocolate squares. Select the squares one at a time to reveal different elixirs. Keep picking until you reveal three matching elixirs at which point you will be awarded the prize shown in the paytable.

Each time you complete an Elixir of Power bonus you will be taken to a map screen and move one step along the trail. Every third step along the trail awards a cash prize.

Conclusion

Is Sweet Alchemy totally unique? No. There are a reasonable number of games on the market already that use this format. However, it is visually gorgeous, has an involved bonus process that always seems to have one more round to play through and the House Edge, while towards the upper end of the range we regularly see with new slots releases, is still appropriate to the complexity of the game. All in all this is a pretty good game!
