The Grand Slot Review

https://d1k6j4zyghhevb.cloudfront.net/casino/quickspin/grand/index.html?moneymode=fun&partnerid=quickspin&gameid=thegrand

Released March 2019

The Grand slots game can be found at casinos offering Quickspin software. Quickspin are one of the newer slots game developers on the market but their products are polished and professional in feel and operation. As a standard Quickspin do publish the RTP/House Edge information for their slots games within their game help file. For a provider that are not currently licensed within the UK market and therefore are under no obligation to publish these figures this is a significantly progressive move. The House Edge of Ticket to The Grand is 3.42%.

The Grand is a 6 reel game, the leftmost 2 reels are 3 symbols high, the middle 2 reels are 4 symbols high and the rightmost reels are 5 symbols high. The game does not use standard paylines, instead you form winning combinations by matching 3 or more identical symbols across adjacent reels. Those combinations must begin at the leftmost reel and symbols must be touching before a combination is formed.

Special Symbols

Wild – The Wild symbol will substitute for all symbols other than the Free Spins and Bonus symbol.

Bonus Symbol – 3 or more Bonus symbols will open the “GRANDomizer” bonus feature. Bonus symbols are only available on reels 3, 4 and 5.

Free Spins – 3 or more “Free Spins” symbols anywhere on the reels will trigger the game’s Free Spins feature. 3, 4 , 5 or 6 “Free Spins” symbols will earn you 6, 9, 12 or 15 Free Spins respectively.

Bonus Features

Random Features – During the base game one of the following 3 features can be triggered at random:

Sync – When this feature is triggered, 2 to 6 reels are synchronised and stop at the same position. Reel pairs that are the same height will mirror each other. Essentially this can happen right the way across all the reels or 1 or 2 pairs of reels.

Wilds – When this feature is triggered 4 to 8 wilds will be placed at random between reels 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Nudge – When this feature is triggered up to 3 reels can be nudged up or down one position to create a better outcome. Synchronised reels will nudge together.

Free Spins – You are awarded 6, 9, 12 or 15 Free Spins if you land 3, 4 , 5 or 6 “Free Spins” symbols respectively. During the Free Spins, if you reveal 3 Bonus symbols on reels 3, 4 and 5 you will trigger the “GRANDomizer” which will trigger one of the “Random Feature” and give you between 1 and 3 additional Free Spins.

Conclusion

The Grand takes its inspiration from 1920’s Art Deco. Think “The Great Gatsby” but with less narrative, no characters and no parties. The game is well enough designed but it lacks some of the style and flair that Quickspin have been known to spoil us with. For example, the game’s background is a blur of purple with similarly blurry hexagonal spotlights moving through it. The reels themselves, whilst clearly well designed do not contain much in the way of detail and neither do the symbols. Essentially, what I am saying is that aesthetically, The Grand does not have a huge amount to offer. As for the features, you get Wilds, Free Spins, a Bonus within the Free Spins and an assortment of random features. Whilst none of those features are particularly immersive, there a fair degree of variety on offer here. The house edge is offering good value for money too. All things considered, I’d say this is a solid effort but disappointing as we’ve grown to expect so much from the designers at Quickspin.
