Treasures of Lion City Slot Review

Released December 2019

The Treasures of Lion City slot game can be found at Microgaming casinos. Microgaming as a standard now publish the house edge information of all their slots at any online casino that holds a UKGC license (this is a requirement for all UKGC licensed casinos). As such we can say that the House Edge of Treasures of Lion City is 3.8%. When playing at any venue that does not hold a UKGC license and does not specifically publish the Return to Player information for their game, this information should be used as a guideline only as we cannot confirm whether or not this game is configurable.

Theme

The theme of Treasures of Lion City is a little tricky to identify but there are a few thematic markers to guide us in the right direction. First of all, the Lion in question has Chinese design, so we’re not dealing with real lions here but the ornate kind that you might find in a Buddhist temple. The action all tales place in a what looks like a cave, where water drips down onto the floor in perpetual streams. What can be inferred is that the Treasures of Lion City is set in a City that has long been forgotten. You could argue that theme is that of exploration and that we, the punters, are the explorers, looking to unearth treasures that have long been forgotten.

Treasures of Lion City is a 5 reel game that is 3 symbols high. The game uses traditional paylines, with 25 in total playing from left to right.

Rolling Reels – Each time you land a winning combination, the symbols involved will disappear, causing existing symbols to drop down into their place whilst new symbols are added to fill up the reels. Each time you win the process continues, which, in theory could happen indefinitely. On certain rolling reels you will be given additional awards:

On the first rolling reel a high paying symbol will be chosen at random and all of them will be turned into wilds. This will also happen on the third and the fifth rolling reel, with nothing additional happening on the second and fourth. On the 7th, 9th and 11th consecutive rolling reel a x3, x9 and a x27 multiplier will be applied respectively. Only the highest multiplier will be applied.

Special Symbols

Wild – The Wild symbol is the “Golden Lion”, which will substitute for all other symbols. It also happens to be the most valuable symbol in the game. The Wilds that are added to the reels during rolling reels look different, but act in exactly the same way.

Conclusion

As slots go there isn’t too much going on for anyone to get very excited about. First of all, it looks OK, but there is nothing here that will last long in the memory. The central feature is excellent but is literally the only feature that comes with this slot. You get Wilds and get those rolling reels, which can reward if you can get on a roll. The fact that you have to hit so many consecutive wins before you unlock the multiplier is disappointing but the earlier Wilds do increase your chances of doing so. The house edge is OK, much like the majority of this slot.
