The Wild Hound Derby slot game can be found at casinos offering Play ‘n Go software. Play ‘n Go should now be considered one of the biggest and most established slots designers out there, despite not being around all that long. They do offer a full casino platform, but primarily seem to be used as a bolt on package for extra slots games. Play ‘n Go used to publish the Return to Player (RTP)/House Edge information for their slots but appear to have stopped doing so within the game help files. Now we need to wait until that information has been published elsewhere and as such we can confirm with a degree of accuracy that the house edge for Wild Hound Derby is 3.07%.
The Wild Hound Derby slot is a 5 reel game that is 4 symbols in height. It uses traditional paylines, with 30 in total, playing from left to right.
This has to be the first Greyhound Racing slot that I have seen and to be fair to Play ‘n’ Go they do a decent job trying to bring a day at the races to life. There is a dog race, which was an absolute requirement for this slot but the overall aesthetic doesn’t quite live up to idea. It is all a little too drab and essentially just not ambitious enough.
Wild – The Wild symbol is the “Trophy” and will substitute for all symbols other than Scatters. The Wild symbol will also pay out individually and is, along with the “Wads of Cash” symbol the most valuable in this slot.
Dogs – Along with your Trophy Wilds you also get “Dog Wilds”. These Wilds only appear on the 5th reel and there are 4 different “Dog Wilds”, each one with a different name and a different colour. Not only do they act as Wilds but they also trigger the Free Spins feature, all you need to do is land each of the 4 “Dog Wilds” on the 4th reel a the same time.
Dog Race Free Spins – If you can trigger the Free Spins then you will be taken to a new set of reels with a greyhound to the right of each row and a golden hare to the left of each row. Before the feature begins you need to choose which of the 4 dogs you want to back, that will then become you dog for the race. You do not get a set number of Free Spins, instead the slot will end when one of the dogs makes it to the golden hare. With each spin the golden hares will also spin and if they land heads up the dog that sits on the same row will move one space to the left. If your dog gets to the Golden Hare first then you will be taken to the Winner’s Wheel. If your dog fails to finish first you will be awarded however much you managed to win during the Free Spins.
Winner’s Wheel – If you earn a spin on the Winner’s Wheel then you will multiply your winnings from the Free Spins round. The Winner’s Wheel can give you a multiplier anywhere between x2 the bet and x15 the bet.
