Wilhelm Tell Slot Review

Released April 2020

The Wilhelm Tell slot is produced by Yggdrasil Gaming. Yggdrasil Gaming take their name from Norse mythology where Yggdrasil is a magical tree where dragons lived and Odin sacrificed himself. Yggdrasil Gaming are one of the smaller slot development companies on the market at the moment – primarily focusing on lottery and scratch card game – and do not offer a full casino platform. They lease their games out to casinos using other platforms as a bolt on package. Yggdrasil Gaming publish the Return to Player/House Edge of their slots games within the game help file. The House Edge of Wilhelm Tell is 3.6%.

Wilhelm Tell is a 5 reel game that is 3 symbols high. The slot uses traditional paylines, with 20 in total, playing from left to right.

Theme

This slot is based on the Swiss legend that tells the story of a 14th century hero who was famed for shooting an arrow straight through an apple from some distance using his trusty crossbow. The slot is the first adaptation of the story that I have seen before and the designers have done an impressive job given the relative originality of the idea. There are plenty of references o medieval Europe on display, but all done with a cartoonish quality that has come to define many of Yggdrasil’s slots in this past.

Special Symbols

Wild – The Wild symbol is the “Boy with the Apple”. Wilds substitute for all other symbols and come stacked, 3 symbols high. Of course, you won’t always land a fully stacked Wild on the reels every time as some symbols will appear above the reels and some will appear below.

Free Spins – The Free Spins symbol is the “Crossbow”. You need 3 or more of them anywhere on the reels to trigger the Free Spins feature. The Free Spins symbol will also pay out in combinations of 2 or more, regardless of paylines and the more symbols you land, the bigger the payout.

Bonus Features

Wild Nudge – If you land a Wild that is not fully stacked it will nudge into to place and fill the reel it has landed on but only if doing so allows it to contribute to a win.

Free Spins – The number of Free Spin symbols that you land will have no bearing on the number of spins you get, just the payout on that spin. As you trigger the feature you will have 3 different Free Spins options to choose from:

Blue Option – 10 Free Spins with every win awarding a x5 multiplier.

Green Option – 5 Free Spins with every win awarding a x10 multiplier.

Red Option – 1 Free Spins with a win awarding x50 the bet.

Conclusion

There are a number of things to like about the Wilhelm Tell slot. First off, it looks excellent. This is up there with the very best designed Yggdrasil slots, which, if you know anything about the provider, should tell you just how good this one looks. You get stacked Wilds that can nudge into place when a win can be formed. You get Free Spins too, and they come with a 3 different options. Whilst all that is good, this slot is crying out for more, much more. A bonus round a random feature, something, other than its design that makes it stand out from the crowd. However, there is some more good news and it comes in the form of the house edge. At just 3%, this slot is offering seriously good value for money, which is more than enough for us to recommend it.
