The Wolf Hunters slots game is produced by Yggdrasil Gaming. Yggdrasil Gaming take their name from Norse mythology where Yggdrasil is a magical tree where dragons lived and Odin sacrificed himself. Yggdrasil Gaming are one of the smaller slot development companies on the market at the moment – primarily focusing on lottery and scratch card game – and do not offer a full casino platform. They lease their games out to casinos using other platforms as a bolt on package. Yggdrasil Gaming publish the Return to Player/House Edge of their slots games within the game help file. The House Edge of Wolf Hunters is 3.70%.
Wolf Hunters is a 5 reel game that is 3 symbols high. The game uses 20 standard paylines, playing from left to right.
Wilds – The Wild symbol is easy to identify because it has “Wild” written across it. The symbol replaces all other standard symbols and will stick in place for a re-spin. If you reveal further Wild symbols during re-spins the feature will re-trigger.
Werewolf Symbol – If you land a “Werewolf” symbol it will be attacked by a Hunter. If the Hunter wins the fight the “Werewolf” will act as a Wild symbol. The Werewolf’s health will also be reduced and the Hunter’s rage increased, all of which I’ll explain in more detail later on in the review.
Bonus – The Bonus symbols have either a male or a female Hunter on them. If you land one on reels 1 and 5 you will trigger 10 free spins.
Free Spins – When you trigger the Free Spins feature you are given more chances to pit Hunters against Werewolves. During the Free Spins you have a chance to power-up your Hunters. If you collect 3 of the Hunter upgrades you will be awarded with 2 extra free spins and the all Werewolf Wilds will expand, either to the left for the male Hunter or up and down for the female Hunter.
Hunter Free Spins – You are awarded 10 Hunter Free Spins when you fill the Hunter’s Rage Meter. You fill it up each time you fight a Werewolf and win. You will begin the free spins with the Hunter fully powered up. When playing this for the first time a Hunter will receive 70 free Rage Points and the other 30 Rage points. You’ll see the meters for these on either side of the reels.
Slayer Free Spins – Reducing the Werewolf’s health to zero will award you with 10 free spins. All Werewolf symbols are wild and will expand. You’ll see the meter for this at the top of the reels.
This really is it folks. A game that looks good and has some serious playability means all the boxes I never thought would be ticked in a slots game most certainly have been. There is so much going on here, so much imagination that at times it feels as though you are playing a computer game. No one is taking the easy option in Wolf Hunters. The game is complex and full of fun and engaging features. The house edge is what we would consider average, so I have no choice but to give this game the full 10 out of 10.
